Leafy View

We are getting higher and higher. Unterberg is the highest point on our walk and I must say the views around are fantastic.

Castle on a Hill

We came accross this ruin of a castle on the way.

Rolling Hillside

The peace and tranquillity we are experiencing on our walk in wonderful. We hardly notice being a bit tired as we take in the ever changing scenery. We had become aware of two other walkers who appeared to be heading for the same place as us. Even if we could not see them we could hear the click of their sticks in the distance!

Site of the hunting lodge

This is where the hunting lodge was. I think it is a convent now.

Overnight in Mayerling

We stayed in this gasthof located in Mayerling made famous because of the apparent suicide of Crown Prince Rudolf and his mistress Baroness Mary Vetsera. The deed was done in his hunting lodge nearby.

Heiligenkreuz

The Abbey of Heiligenkreuz. A Cistercian monastery The monks recorded a CD entitled 'Chant Music for Paradise' So easy to listen too although I'm sure not everyone ' cup of tea'. It is a beautiful and tranquil place. So much so that I am determined to go back again.

Time for a beer!

After walking about 20 kilometres, plus another 5 or 6 because we lost sight of the trail markers, we just couldn't resist a beer! This was in a cafe just outside the well known monastery of Heiligenkreuz.

From a platform on high

An hour into the walk and already we are on higher ground. The view around was fantastic. We could see for miles ( Kilometres ). I was just getting into my stride. The weather was great. What more could one ask for?
